The Bockfest Song
by: Jake Speed

Old Man Winter’s bags are packed
The frost is gone, the birds are back
The tulips are all pushing up
Tap the keg, fill the mug

The German band plays um-pah-pah
The Trojan Goat goes bah-bah-bah
Spring is here, Spring is here
Raise your glass, let’s drink some beer!

Have another cold Bock beer
Have another cold Bock beer
Winter’s gone, Spring is here
Cincinnati’s full of cheer

The great parade is in the streets
Jim Tarbell is in the lead
Just behind him at his heels
The Arnold’s Bar bathtub on wheels

There’s hops and brats and German brew
There’s horses, dogs, and donkeys too
There’s song and dance, there’s drunken toasts
And all of it is for the goats!

Saw you for the first time Tuesday August 14, 2007 Acoustic Tuesdays in Piatt Park. Was great! Love the spirit, fun, sincerity, social commentaries, references to historic and topics of today...the pickin' and singin' was quite a treat too. - I have a question - Have you ever been commissioned to write a song? There is an ongoing interesting story about a Catholic elementary school in Reading, Ohio that has been shut down/closed after 153 years. The reasons for closure are questionable.(Church hierarchy issues...) The catch is... the good folks at St. Peter and Paul parish have pulled together with awesome spirit and a grass roots tenacity to renovate and open a new school in just four months time. Parents and parishioners pushing passion to do something right and good for the children of the Millcreek valley area. Please let me know if you have any interest.

Freddies:

Thanks for playing the Blue Manatee the other week. My 3 year old keeps tapping his foot on an invisible bell and saying "I'm Jake Speed".

See you at your next show.

If there's anyone who could be called the "Woody Guthrie of Cincinnati," it's folksinger Jake Speed. Speed is again making moves that would do Woody proud. Speed's "songitorials" are weekly songs about current events. Think of it as a singing editorial with a healthy dose of wit and humanity. Each week, Speed will unveil a new song, dealing with different social issues of the day in much the way Guthrie's "Woody Sez" column once did.
